Gold Prices Likely to Rise Despite High Bond Yields: Analysis
Gold Prices Likely to Rise Despite High Bond Yields: Analysis
Market analyst predicts a positive outlook for gold in Q4 2026 amid high bond yields and continued central bank demand.

Gold prices are expected to see an encouraging fourth quarter in 2026, despite facing challenges from rising bond yields, currently at their highest in 20 years. As reported by Fawad Razaqzada, a Market Analyst at FOREX.com, the gold market experienced significant volatility in the third quarter, finishing with a positive gain of around 4%. However, prices have dropped from the previous month's peak just below $4,700 per ounce.

The recent increase in 10-year bond yields to 5.27%, up by 87 basis points, has reduced gold's attractiveness as a non-yielding asset. Factors such as persistent inflation, tighter monetary policies, and declining bond prices have contributed to this downward pressure. Despite this, Razaqzada remains optimistic about the potential for gold prices to rebound by the end of the year. He noted, “Gold spent much of Q3 bouncing around $4,000 and $4,500, as volatility compressed with investors not sure whether to buy the dip.”

One significant factor influencing gold prices is the direction of U.S. monetary policy. Markets are preparing for at least one more interest rate hike before the year concludes. However, questions remain about the Federal Reserve's ability to manage inflation effectively. Razaqzada suggests that if confidence in the Fed declines, it could lead to a resurgence of the dollar debasement trade, which would favour gold and other hard assets.

Central bank demand is also expected to remain robust, which could provide support for gold prices. Analysts believe that central banks may continue diversifying their reserves away from U.S. Treasuries, thus favouring gold. Razaqzada pointed out that, “There are no major indications that demand for gold from central banks will ease in the final quarter of the year.” Should this purchasing trend continue, it may bolster gold prices further as both investors and speculators anticipate central banks’ moves.

Looking ahead, Razaqzada observes that gold is currently in a long-term bullish trend, despite recent challenges. He notes a significant support level around $4,000 and highlights a descending triangle pattern that forms a bullish continuation signal. A breakout above the resistance level around $4,400 could trigger further gains, potentially reaching $4,500 and even $4,700 in the long term.

In summary, while current conditions pose risks for gold, the market remains signalled for potential growth in the final quarter of the year. As analysts watch key economic indicators and central bank actions, gold may prove to be an appealing option for investors amidst shifting market dynamics.
