Garmin Fenix 9 Pro Launches with Enhanced Features and Battery Life

Garmin has unveiled the Fenix 9 Pro, a premium addition to its smartwatch lineup, aimed at athletes and adventurers alike. While largely similar to the Fenix 9 model, the Fenix 9 Pro distinguishes itself with a robust titanium case and superior features.

Titanium and Water Resistance The Fenix 9 Pro is crafted entirely from titanium, offering a more durable option compared to its counterpart, which utilises a combination of titanium and fibre-reinforced polymer. The watch boasts impressive water resistance, rated at up to 10 ATM, making it suitable for diving up to 40 metres.

Display and Battery Innovations The latest model includes an optional LTE modem and incorporates satellite connectivity. The AMOLED display can reach a brightness of 3,000 nits and is available in three sizes. The largest version, at 51 millimetres, features a display size of 1.5 inches, while the 43-mm and 47-mm variants offer displays of 1.3 inches and 1.4 inches respectively.

A notable energy-efficient option is also available; the larger models can be fitted with a Memory-in-Pixel (MiP) display. While this display is less vibrant than the AMOLED, it offers significant energy savings and is equipped with built-in solar cells. This allows the 51-mm model to last up to 57 days under standard use and 291 days in power-saving mode.

Upgraded Features and Software The Fenix 9 Pro surpasses its predecessor, the Fenix 8 Pro, by providing a brighter display, more storage capacity at 64 GB, and a selection of new software enhancements. One of these is the Garmin Epic feature, which facilitates the aggregation of multiple activities into a single shareable narrative including images, health, and performance data.

Other enhancements include improved user interface functionality, especially with topographical maps, and an LED flashlight with multiple colour options, specifically red, green, and white. The watch continues to feature the Elevate 5 sensor, which monitors heart rate, blood oxygen levels, skin temperature, and can also perform an electrocardiogram (ECG).

Standard Features Included Standard attributes of the Fenix series—like GPS navigation, Garmin Pay functionality via NFC, and a variety of fitness and outdoor features—remain integral to the Fenix 9 Pro.

Pricing and Availability The Fenix 9 Pro is priced at $1,099 for the AMOLED versions (43 mm and 47 mm), while the larger model, available with either AMOLED or MiP display and solar capabilities, is available for $1,199. There is also the option to equip all models with inReach technology, offering integrated LTE modem and satellite connectivity for an additional cost of $100, though a subscription is required for these features. Additional colour choices and watch straps may incur an increased price.
