Fuel Shortages Reported in Hyderabad Amid Panic Buying

On 27 April 2026, Hyderabad experienced a surge in fuel demand, leading to long queues at petrol stations and temporary closures at several outlets. Panic buying emerged following unverified rumours of fuel shortages, reminiscent of similar events that occurred nearly a month earlier in the city. Although many vehicles lined up at fuel pumps, the Telangana Civil Supplies Department assured residents that there are enough stocks to meet daily requirements.

The department revealed that on the same day, approximately 7,443 kilolitres of petrol and 11,081 kilolitres of diesel were distributed across Telangana, contributing to a cumulative supply of 18,524 kilolitres by 4 p.m. While certain petrol stations had run out of fuel due to the unexpected spike in demand, the reported figures highlight the availability of fuel resources.
