Fortis Healthcare and Takeda Launch National Dengue Awareness Campaign
Fortis Healthcare and Takeda India have launched ‘Mission Dengue Free India’, a comprehensive campaign aimed at improving awareness, prevention, and early intervention regarding dengue fever across the nation. This initiative combines the clinical expertise and extensive hospital network of Fortis Healthcare with the scientific knowledge and public health education mastery offered by Takeda.
The campaign is set to enhance health literacy among communities, encouraging people to adopt preventive measures, recognise symptoms in the early stages, and seek timely medical assistance. Notably, Fortis Healthcare and Takeda’s collaborative effort comes in response to the concerning statistics reported by the National Centre for Vector Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC), which indicated over 113,000 cases of dengue in India for the year 2025. Experts suggest the actual figures may be higher, as many individuals do not seek care in healthcare facilities.
India represents approximately one-third of the global dengue burden, and seasonal outbreaks typically strain the healthcare system during the monsoon months. While advancements in diagnosis and treatment exist, there remains a significant gap in public awareness regarding preventive measures, symptom recognition, and timely medical response.
To bridge this gap, the campaign will feature educational initiatives conducted by healthcare professionals within selected Fortis hospitals and surrounding communities. These initiatives will include informative sessions aimed at Resident Welfare Associations, educational institutions, and corporate entities, in addition to public talks led by medical experts, articles authored by doctors, digital awareness campaigns, and educational video podcasts.
Activities will also encompass social media engagements and hospital-based awareness programmes specifically designed for the dengue season. This multifaceted approach aligns with the World Health Organization’s integrated framework for dengue prevention, which focuses on community education, vector control, timely detection, and appropriate treatment measures, along with vaccination where relevant and consistent with national guidelines.
Anil Vinayak, Group Chief Operating Officer at Fortis Healthcare, stated, “At Fortis Healthcare, we believe our responsibility extends beyond treating illness to empowering communities with the knowledge they need to stay healthy. Dengue remains a significant public health concern in India, but greater awareness and timely action can help reduce the risk of infection and serious illness.”
Ted Kim, Country Head for Takeda Biopharmaceuticals in India, underscored the necessity of collaborative efforts to combat dengue, asserting that building upon their global expertise in prevention and the trusted leadership of Fortis Healthcare can foster disease awareness and encourage preventive behaviours.
This initiative has also received support from Mitsui & Co., which facilitated the collaborative effort between Fortis Healthcare and Takeda India, highlighting a shared commitment to improving public health outcomes through innovative approaches and community engagement. As the recurrence of dengue outbreaks continues, both organisations believe that healthcare facilities must expand their role beyond treatment to include raising public awareness, enhancing health literacy, and supporting preventative healthcare strategies. ‘Mission Dengue Free India’ signifies a crucial development in efforts to foster better-informed communities and improve readiness against dengue through consistent and cooperative action.
