The Indian SUV market is poised for significant developments by the end of this year, with several high-profile models expected to enter the scene. As consumers contemplate their next vehicle purchase, here are five upcoming sport utility vehicles that are generating considerable interest and warrant waiting for.

Hyundai Bayon One of the most anticipated models is the Hyundai Bayon, which is set to bridge the gap between the Hyundai Venue and Creta. This SUV will feature a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, capable of producing 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque. Drivers can expect a six-speed manual transmission alongside Hyundai's Intelligent Variable Transmission, a type of continuously variable automatic transmission. The Bayon aims to incorporate advanced features and artificial intelligence, with a launch anticipated shortly.

Chery Jetour T2 Adding to the lineup is the rebranded Chery Jetour T2, making its way to the Indian market under the name JSW Combat. It is powered by a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine, complemented by an 18.4-kWh battery pack and two electric motors, delivering power to the front wheels. This setup is expected to produce a combined output of 360 hp and 610 Nm of torque, with a claimed all-electric range of 90 km under certain testing conditions. The total driving range, when combining a full fuel tank and charged battery, may reach an impressive 1,100 km. The JSW Combat is expected to hit the market on December 4.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric 400 4Matic Mercedes-Benz is making strides in electric mobility with the introduction of the GLC Electric 400 4Matic in November. Equipped with a substantial 94 kWh battery, it promises a remarkable range of up to 715 km on a single charge. The dual-motor system will deliver peak power of 483 bhp and maximum torque of 800 Nm, offering all-wheel drive as a standard feature. This vehicle marks the first Mercedes SUV built on the new-generation electric platform, manufactured at the company's facility in Chakan, Maharashtra.

Audi Q9 Adding to the luxury segment, Audi has confirmed that its flagship SUV, the Q9, will make its way to India. This model is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine producing 299 PS of power and 630 Nm of torque, enhanced by Audi’s latest mild-hybrid technology. The Q9 is designed to provide drivers with an upgraded acceleration experience, thanks to an electric-powered compressor and a sophisticated eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission paired with a quattro all-wheel-drive system. An early next-year launch is anticipated, with the India-spec model expected to closely mirror its global counterpart.

Range Rover Electric Finally, the iconic Range Rover brand will soon unveil its first electric SUV, known as the Range Rover Electric. This model will harness the power of a 118.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, energising two permanent-magnet motors rated at 260 kW each.
