FIRs Filed Against Aaditya and Amit Thackeray: Charges Explained
Delhi Police has denotified Jantar Mantar; protests follow FIRs against Thackeray brothers. Key figures and events unfold amid rising tensions.

The Delhi Police has officially removed the designation of Jantar Mantar as a designated site for protests, substituting it with Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground, and CBD Ground, located in eastern Delhi. This announcement was made via a standing order issued by the police department. The decision has raised questions among opposition leaders, who perceive it as an attempt to restrict public dissent.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been vocal in his criticism, urging the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, to step down and cooperate with the opposition. He stated that the political struggle is against "the bigger powers" that are perceived to manipulate the electoral landscape and influence decision-making processes.

In a separate development, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant declined a meeting request from opposition figures, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. The Chief Justice noted that discussing matters currently before the courts would contravene judicial ethics and the principle of separation of powers, which is a fundamental tenet of the Indian constitution.

Amidst this political turmoil, there have been reports of escalating tensions surrounding the protests against the Chief Election Commissioner. Protests erupted in cities such as Mumbai and Pune, where many individuals have been detained as the police sought to maintain order and prevent any escalation of unrest.

In a troubling development unrelated to the ongoing political situation, two merchant vessels with Indian crews were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. One vessel, the MT Petro Dolphin, sustained damage from a drone strike, resulting in the disappearance of two Indian crew members. Another vessel, the MT Valthera, was struck by a projectile; however, all 11 crew members aboard that ship remain safe.

While the implications of these events continue to unfold, the intersection of domestic political tensions and international incidents remains a critical area for ongoing observation and analysis.
