Expected Launch Details for iPhone 18 Pro: Specs and Design Insights
Apple is anticipated to unveil its next-generation iPhone models in the coming months. Despite the absence of official announcements, speculation around the iPhone 18 series is rife. Reports suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max might be released later this year, while the standard model could be delayed until 2027.
Though Apple has not confirmed any details about the upcoming devices, leaks provide insights into potential changes. The design of the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to resemble that of its predecessor, the iPhone 17 Pro, but with the addition of new colour options. Sources indicate that Apple is testing four colours: dark cherry, light blue, silver, and dark grey. While the introduction of all four colours remains uncertain, the dark cherry variant is anticipated to be the standout hue.
In terms of design, the iPhone 18 Pro may feature a single-tone back, contrasting with the two-tone design of the previous model. However, a significant change is expected on the front. Speculation suggests that the Dynamic Island could be about 35% narrower, enhancing the screen space at the top of the device.
Display sizes are likely to be consistent with those found in the iPhone 17 Pro series, featuring a 6.3-inch panel for the iPhone 18 Pro and a 6.9-inch panel for the Pro Max. Furthermore, the models are expected to leverage new LTPO+ display technology, enhancing power efficiency.
Apple is likely to equip the iPhone 18 Pro with its forthcoming A20 Pro chipset, which is purported to be manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm technology. This could result in the A20 Pro being up to 15% faster and 30% more efficient than its predecessor, the A19 Pro. Alongside processing power, enhancements in battery technology are also anticipated, with leaks suggesting that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will house a battery between 5,100mAh and 5,200mAh, a slight improvement over the previous model.
Camera specifications are expected to see notable upgrades as well. The iPhone 18 series is anticipated to maintain a triple-camera setup featuring three 48-megapixel sensors: a main camera, an ultrawide camera, and a telephoto option. There are reports that Apple may be testing a variable aperture for the main camera, allowing users to control light exposure. Additionally, a new three-layer stacked image sensor from Samsung is under consideration to enhance responsiveness and dynamic range.
The front-facing camera is likely to be the same 18-megapixel setup introduced in the iPhone 17 series. Improvements in software are also predicted, with the iPhone 18 Pro expected to run on iOS 27, featuring substantial updates for Siri, possibly integrating Google's Gemini models.
Another anticipated addition is expanded satellite support, which may allow internet access via satellite in areas without cellular coverage.
Apple has a long-standing tradition of launching new iPhones in September. If this timeline holds, the 2026 launch will be the first under new CEO John Ternus, who will succeed Tim Cook on September 1, 2026. In addition to the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, Apple is also expected to reveal its first foldable iPhone during this event.
Pricing for the new models remains largely speculative. While no concrete figures have emerged, it is suggested that Apple may maintain pricing similar to that of the iPhone 17 series, which commenced at Rs 1,34,900 for the Pro and Rs 1,49,900 for the Pro Max in India. The anticipated release of the iPhone Ultra is also expected to cause a shift in pricing strategy, especially around the premium smartphone segment, reflecting trends in consumer behaviour and market dynamics.
