England Dominates Day Two of First Test Against Pakistan
Harry Brook's stellar performance puts England in a commanding position against Pakistan on Day 2 of the first Test at Headingley.

Harry Brook's remarkable innings of 91 runs propelled England into a strong position on the second day of the first Test against Pakistan at Headingley. With this performance, Brook advanced his impressive average to over 85 in his 12 Test matches against Pakistan. The Yorkshire cricketer's knock came from just 93 balls and featured 13 boundaries, showcasing his aggressive batting style.

Brook was dropped early in his innings, surviving an opportunity at second slip off the bowling of Khurram Shahzad. His dismissal came when he fell to spinner Ali Usman, who claimed figures of 5 for 92 in a highly competitive innings for the visitors.

Making significant contributions to England's total, Dan Lawrence, returning to the Test side after a two-year absence, scored 51 runs. Their partnership of 120 for the fifth wicket was crucial in consolidating England's dominance. Lawrence stepped in to fill the gap left by the retired Ben Stokes.

Earlier, Joe Root and Jordan Cox laid the groundwork with their partnership of 150 runs for the third wicket. Root scored 66 runs, achieving his 109th Test innings with a score of 50 or more. Meanwhile, Cox celebrated his first Test half-century with 73 runs, demonstrating promise in his debut season at No. 3, a position he took on due to Jacob Bethell's knee injury.

Despite their efforts, Pakistan faced significant challenges in the match. They finished the day at 366 for 8, looking to recover in the following days. With improved weather conditions expected, the team hopes for better fortunes in their quest to turn the game around. Pakistan has not won a Test match in England for the past eight years, intensifying the pressure on the team moving forward in the series.
