Drishyam 3: What to Know Before the Final Chapter Releases
Ajay Devgn's film 'Drishyam' has captured audiences since its release in 2015, transforming the thriller genre in Bollywood. With the anticipated release of 'Drishyam: The Conclusion' on October 2, it is timely to reflect on the pivotal events leading to this final instalment.
The original film introduced viewers to Vijay Salgaonkar, a cable operator residing in Goa. His ordinary life takes a drastic turn when his daughter, Anju, accidentally kills Sam, the son of police officer Meera Deshmukh. Faced with an imminent threat to his family, Vijay devises a meticulous plan to protect them by creating elaborate alibis. He also conceals Sam’s body beneath a newly constructed police station, effectively obliterating crucial evidence.
The plot thickens as Vijay and his family fabricate a joint alibi for October 2. Although they have travelled on different dates, they assert they were in Panaji attending a religious gathering, followed by a visit to a restaurant and the cinema. This carefully orchestrated plan involves training his family to maintain consistency in their statements and producing counterfeit receipts to substantiate their story.
In the sequel, 'Drishyam 2', which takes place seven years after the first film, Vijay believes they have escaped the fallout. However, the introduction of Inspector General Tarun Ahlawat, portrayed by Akshaye Khanna, sets off a tense game of cat and mouse. Vijay anticipates potential repercussions should the remains of Sam be discovered. Despite several setbacks, he cleverly manages to circumvent legal repercussions by switching the remains before DNA testing.
The upcoming 'Drishyam 3' promises a distinct storyline compared to its Malayalam counterpart, led by Mohanlal. Ajay Devgn emphasised that the Hindi film will be tailored specifically for its audience, stating, "A different narrative will evolve, focusing more on suspense rather than merely adapting the existing story."
In a recent industry discussion, Ajay revealed that he sought Mohanlal’s approval for this final installment, although the Malayalam star could not see it due to being on holiday. Ajay remarked, "For me, I thought that a kind of an approval from him would be nice." He expressed confidence that ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ surpasses its predecessor, citing the narrative as complex and intriguing, fulfilling the expectations of long-time fans.
The film marks the return of key cast members, including Shriya Saran as Nandini, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav as his daughters, alongside Tabu and Rajat Kapoor. The franchise will also see new faces, as Jaideep Ahlawat assumes the role of SP Crime Branch Rajveer Singh Tomar, succeeding Akshaye Khanna.
As the family drama unfolds, audiences are left eagerly awaiting how Vijay's narrative will conclude in this notable franchise, which has captured the attention of Hindi cinema enthusiasts. 'Drishyam: The Conclusion' aims to deliver unexpected twists, reaching a fitting close to Vijay Salgaonkar's compelling journey.
