Cyclone Arnab Develops in Bay of Bengal, Impacting Odisha and Andhra Pradesh
A new tropical cyclone, named Arnab, has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is forecasted to impact the coastal regions of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the system intensified from a deep depression into a cyclonic storm early on October 26, 2023.
The latest updates indicate that Cyclone Arnab has the potential to bring significant rainfall to various areas along the eastern coast of India. The IMD has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly in coastal districts of both states.
In anticipation of severe weather conditions, state administrations are taking precautions to safeguard residents. Authorities are advising individuals to avoid unnecessary travel and are preparing emergency response teams.
Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 80 kilometres per hour, leading to hazardous conditions, especially for fishing activities along the coastline. The IMD has advised fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea until conditions improve.
Preparations are already underway as local governments are mobilising resources to assist any affected people. Schools in vulnerable areas may also be closed as a precautionary measure.
The IMD continues to monitor the system closely and will provide regular updates as it tracks the cyclone’s movement across the region.
