Chiranjeevi Calls for Action Against AI-Generated Misuse in Cinema
Chiranjeevi, a prominent figure in Indian cinema, has publicly denounced the creation of an inappropriate video featuring Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor. The video, which is said to manipulate scenes from the song "Chuttamalle"—part of the upcoming film "Devara: Part 1"—was generated using artificial intelligence technology. In a detailed statement, he expressed his deep concern over the situation, describing the action as shameful and cruel. Chiranjeevi took to the social media platform X, stating, "I am deeply disturbed by the use of AI to create degrading and morphed videos of a woman. Such acts are cruel, shameful and completely unacceptable. I strongly condemn them." He emphasised that this issue is broader than a single incident, warning that anyone could fall victim to similar misuse. Chiranjeevi urged collective action from the film industry, suggesting that a dedicated committee and support cell should be formed in collaboration with Cyber Crime authorities. This team would aim to assist those affected, remove inappropriate content, and initiate legal proceedings against the perpetrators. He also called on government authorities for more robust regulatory measures against the misuse of artificial intelligence in this context. "The entire Telugu film fraternity must come together for this effort. Our associations, artists, technicians, audiences and fans all have a role to play," he added. Jr NTR also condemned the AI-generated video, using strong language to express his outrage over the degrading portrayal of women. He stated that in a culture that venerates women, such actions are not only disgraceful but also highlight a societal issue that requires urgent attention and action. The AI-generated video had reportedly circulated extensively on social media before being removed, showcasing Janhvi Kapoor in a sexually explicit context. The film "Devara: Part 1," set to release in September 2024, features Jr NTR and Kapoor in lead roles. Chiranjeevi’s stance reflects a growing concern within the film industry regarding digital abuses facilitated by advanced technologies, urging a unified response to safeguard the dignity and rights of individuals depicted in such content.
