California Man Charged with Murder of Wife After Disappearance
A man of Indian descent, Gurinder Singh Gill, aged 28, has been arrested in California on charges of murdering his wife, Jasmine Gill, aged 30. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest, which took place on Wednesday, following the discovery of Jasmine’s burned remains in El Dorado County.
Jasmine Gill was reported missing on October 4, after her cousin informed the police that she had not been seen since September 30. Gurinder Singh Gill initially claimed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents took his wife while she was checking the mail. However, ICE officials later stated that no enforcement action occurred at the Gill residence, raising suspicions regarding Gurinder’s account.
As the investigation unfolded, authorities found inconsistencies in Gurinder's statements about his wife’s disappearance. Reports indicated that the couple was in the midst of a divorce and entangled in a child custody dispute. On October 1, human remains, which were later identified as belonging to Jasmine, were discovered in a remote area.
Gurinder Singh Gill has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and is ineligible for bail. In light of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by a family member, Daman Gill, to help cover expenses related to Jasmine’s funeral and the care of their eight-month-old child. The campaign has raised approximately $9,600 as of Sunday.
Jasmine Gill was a registered nurse, and her family has described her as a person who sought a better life for herself and her child. The fundraiser highlighted Jasmine’s aspiration for freedom and safety, stating, "she was fighting for a better future for herself and her baby."
This case has garnered considerable media attention and raises questions about domestic violence and its tragic consequences. Authorities have yet to reveal additional details about the investigation.
