Bollywood Actor Ranveer Singh Visits Mysuru Temple Amid Controversy
Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh visited the prestigious Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysuru on May 26, 2026, to offer his apologies to the deity. This visit is in line with his commitment to the Karnataka High Court following a controversy surrounding his comments about the sacred traditions depicted in the film "Kantara Chapter-1."
Singh arrived at the temple early in the morning, just before the influx of devotees, and was unannounced. He discreetly wore a mask to maintain a low profile. M.J. Roopa, the Executive Officer of the Chamundeshwari Temple, reported that he arrived around 7:30 a.m. and introduced himself to the temple priest, Sunil. The actor explained that he was there to seek forgiveness from the deity.
During his visit, Singh was led to the Garbha Gudi, the main sanctum of the temple, where he offered special prayers. After completing his ritual, he left the temple premises before any devotees arrived, as noted by Roopa.
The controversy initially stemmed from remarks made by Singh during the Filmfare Awards in Goa, where he allegedly mimicked a Daiva—a divine figure in local traditions—and referred to it as a 'devil.' These comments reportedly offended religious sentiments, leading to a complaint and a subsequent First Information Report (FIR) against him.
On May 5, 2026, the Karnataka High Court dismissed the proceedings against Singh after he submitted an unconditional apology. The court accepted a revised affidavit from his legal team and mandated that the actor make amends by visiting the Chamundi deity within four weeks.
This incident underlines the complexities of cultural representation in cinema and the responsibilities actors have in portraying traditions respectfully. With his visit, Ranveer Singh aims to mend relations within the community he inadvertently upset.
