BMW Motorrad Launches F 450 R, Expected in India by 2027
BMW Motorrad has introduced the F 450 R, extending its entry-level parallel-twin motorcycle range beyond the F 450 GS. The F 450 R features a 420cc engine platform but offers a more compact, street-oriented alternative to the adventure-tuned model.
The new roadster showcases a bold naked-bike appearance, characterised by angular tank extensions and an LED headlight with bracket-shaped daytime running lights. Additionally, it features a stepped split-seat arrangement, which contributes to its sporty styling. The motorcycle has a ready-to-ride weight of 175 kilograms and a seat height of 790 millimetres, with optional seat height adjustments of 775 millimetres and 810 millimetres available.
The F 450 R comes equipped with a 14-litre fuel tank and boasts a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.3 kilometres per litre. Its liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, which is shared with the F 450 GS, produces 48 horsepower at 8,750 revolutions per minute and 43 newton metres of torque at 6,750 revolutions per minute. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
BMW has announced several configurations for the F 450 R, including Base, Exclusive, M Sport, and M Sport with an Innovation Package. The Exclusive variant includes features like Shift Assistant Pro and sport suspension, while the M Sport variant offers Riding Modes Pro. The Innovation Package introduces the Easy Ride Clutch, which allows riders to start, stop, and shift gears without requiring the use of the clutch lever, although manual operation remains possible.
The motorcycle's chassis is constructed from a tubular steel space frame, combined with an upside-down front fork and an aluminium double-sided swingarm. The rear spring preload and rebound damping are adjustable for enhanced ride comfort. It is fitted with 17-inch cast-aluminium wheels and single-disc brakes on both the front and rear.
Standard riding modes include Rain, Road, and Dynamic, with the optional Riding Modes Pro offering individually customisable settings. The motorcycle is also equipped with safety features such as cornering-capable Anti-lock Braking System Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control, and engine drag torque control. A 6.5-inch TFT display, connectivity features, heated grips, USB-C charging, and full LED lighting are also included.
TVS Motor Company began producing the F 450 GS model in India in November 2025, followed by its European launch in early 2026 and the Indian introduction in April. This timeline suggests that there may be a short gap in availability for the F 450 R between international and Indian markets. BMW estimates that the motorcycle could be available in early 2027, with pricing anticipated to be around ₹4.5 lakh, while the F 450 GS currently retails for ₹4.95–5.60 lakh, excluding handling charges.
