New Delhi: Bharti Enterprises, a major Indian business conglomerate, along with private equity firm Warburg Pincus, has announced a significant investment in Haier India, a subsidiary of the Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Haier Group. The two entities have collectively acquired a 49% stake in Haier India, marking a noteworthy development in the Indian consumer appliances market. This acquisition follows a similar trend where another Chinese company, MG Motor, owned by SAIC, divested a portion of its stake to the JSW Group led by Sajjan Jindal. The specifics of the Haier deal, including the financial details, have not been disclosed by the companies involved. The partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both Bharti Enterprises and Warburg Pincus to enhance Haier's growth trajectory in India. In a joint statement, the companies expressed their commitment to utilising Bharti's extensive networks, Warburg Pincus' proven investment strategies, and Haier's global expertise in innovation to accelerate the brand's expansion within the Indian market. "We are pleased to collaborate with Warburg Pincus as we partner with Haier to support its next phase of growth in India," said a representative from Bharti Enterprises. The Haier Group will maintain a 49% ownership in Haier India, while the remaining 2% will be held by the management team of Haier India. The collaboration is expected to enhance Haier India's 'Made in India, Made for India' vision by increasing local sourcing, expanding manufacturing capabilities, and driving product innovation. Furthermore, the capital infusion is anticipated to bolster Haier India's competitiveness across its entire value chain. Currently, the consumer appliances market in India is experiencing significant growth, particularly in the premium segment. Over the past seven years, Haier India has demonstrated impressive growth, achieving a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 25%. The company boasts a diversified portfolio that includes air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions, washing machines, and various kitchen appliances. The strategic partnership is designed to combine global innovation with local insights, reinforcing Haier India's leadership in the rapidly evolving consumer durables sector. Bharti Enterprises expressed confidence that this collaboration will further solidify Haier India's position as a leading brand in the country, driven by global innovations and enhanced customer service. Warburg Pincus aims to utilise its extensive network and deep local insights to support the growth of leading companies in Asia, showcasing its commitment to the region. Haier has described the partnership with Bharti Enterprises and Warburg Pincus as a significant milestone in its development journey, highlighting the importance of global capabilities and local adaptation in its strategy. The collaboration is anticipated to bring together the complementary strengths of all parties involved, facilitating the scaling of consumer and technology companies across China and India.
