Bangladesh Advances to Asia Cup Semi-Final Against India
Bangladesh progressed to the semi-finals of the Asia Cup 2026 after defeating the United Arab Emirates by 34 runs. The match, held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, saw Bangladesh defend a total of 103 runs.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bowl first, which proved beneficial. The UAE struggled to score, finishing at 69 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Bangladesh's bowlers showcased a dominant performance, particularly Rabeya Khan, who achieved impressive bowling figures of three wickets for 14 runs over four overs.
Additionally, both Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter contributed significantly by each claiming two wickets. Sultana Khatun and Fahima Khatun also made their mark on the wickets chart. The UAE faced early setbacks as Suraksha Kotte from Bangladesh took crucial wickets during the powerplay, limiting the scoring opportunities for the batters.
Bangladesh's batting performance was less than stellar, with Sharmin Akhter top-scoring with 38 runs. Juairiya Ferdous and captain Nigar Sultana added essential runs, scoring 16 and 23 runs, respectively. Despite being bowled out for the lowest total in this Asia Cup, Bangladesh secured two valuable points, solidifying their place in the semi-finals.
With this victory, Bangladesh will now face India in the next round, while defending champions Sri Lanka are set to compete against Pakistan in the other semi-final. The Asia Cup continues to gather attention as teams vie for a place in the final, with Bangladesh's determination evident in their recent performance.
