Balochistan Activists Declare Independence as Republic of Balochistan
Balochistan activists have proclaimed the province's independence from Pakistan, claiming control of the region's resources and territory.

Balochistan activists have issued a statement declaring the province an independent country, which they are calling the Republic of Balochistan. This announcement has taken the Pakistani government by surprise, coming from a movement that has sought separation for decades. According to unverified claims circulating on social media, the activists assert that they control 85% of the territory within Balochistan.

The statement includes the unveiling of a national anthem and a flag, which is said to be named ‘Maa Chukain Balochani’. Additionally, they have introduced a currency identified as the ‘Balochi Falsa’. The activists have expressed intentions to maintain control over the region’s rich natural resources, including more than 150 gas fields and 1,200 coal mines.

A quote from the statement outlines their military aspirations: “There may be no heavy fighter jets, helicopters, tanks, and missiles. But, with an army, navy, and air force of 500,000, we can drive out Pakistani forces from our region by the end of this year.” They have called on the international community to recognise Balochistan as an independent entity.

Geographically, Balochistan is the largest province in Pakistan, covering about 44% of its total area. The region shares borders with Iran to the west and Afghanistan to the north, making it strategically significant. Despite its wealth of resources, the populace has endured high levels of poverty for decades.

Historically, Balochistan was once home to the independent state of Kalat Khanate, which was annexed by Pakistan in 1948, shortly after the partition of India in 1947. The recent declaration by activists marks a crucial moment in the ongoing struggle for autonomy in the region.
