Apple's Foldable iPhone Set for Launch in September 2026
Apple's forthcoming foldable iPhone, codenamed V68, is anticipated to debut in September 2026. This device is predicted to adopt a book-style design, mirroring the configuration seen in competitors like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold.
Jon Prosser, host of Front Page Tech, recently discussed the expected features and design elements of this highly awaited smartphone in a video. According to Prosser, Apple appears poised to address persistent challenges associated with foldable technology.
The video highlights that Apple's foldable iPhone will likely feature a seamless display, setting it apart from existing models that have dominated the market. Unlike the clamshell format adopted by some brands, Apple's design will reportedly focus on a book-style fold.
The inner display is said to measure approximately 7.8 inches, while the outer display is expected to be around 5.5 inches. This configuration aims to provide a substantial screen area while maintaining a compact form factor when folded.
To tackle visibility issues related to the fold, the device may incorporate innovative technology such as a pressure-dispersing metal plate, liquid metal within the hinge, and an in-cell touch panel. These features could enhance user experience by minimising crease visibility and maintaining touch accuracy.
When folded, the iPhone is expected to be about 9mm thick and roughly 4.5mm when fully opened, which is relatively slender given its dual-screen design. Prosser also noted that the device is likely to include a four-camera setup, facilitating photography in both folded and unfolded orientations.
While Face ID may not be included in this model, Touch ID is expected to return, integrated into the power button located at the top of the device. Additionally, recent reports suggest that the iPhone Fold will adopt an eSIM-only configuration, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card slot.
The device is anticipated to feature Apple’s second-generation C2 modem, which is designed to enhance connectivity and power management. Prosser mentioned that the iPhone Fold could utilise high-density battery cells, supported by a streamlined display driver, to ensure adequate power for its dual-screen functionality.
Initial production is projected to include standard black and white options, with manufacturing expected to ramp up in early 2026. Pricing is anticipated to fall between $2,000 and $2,500, positioning it above the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. This could signify the introduction of a new premium "Ultra" tier within Apple's product lineup.
According to reports, the iPhone Fold could be launched alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September 2026. If Apple successfully creates a foldable device without a visible crease, it could address a significant limitation that has affected existing foldable smartphones, marking a pivotal entry into this evolving market segment.
