Anurag Kashyap Praises VFX Work in 'Nishaanchi' Over 'Sinners'
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap asserts that 'Nishaanchi's' visual effects surpass those of the Oscar-nominated film 'Sinners'.

Indian director Anurag Kashyap has expressed pride in the visual effects of his latest film, 'Nishaanchi', stating that the quality surpasses that of the Hollywood film 'Sinners', which has received critical acclaim and multiple Oscar nominations. 'Nishaanchi', a crime drama, follows the lives of twin brothers, Babloo and Dabloo, portrayed by Aaishvary Thackeray, as they navigate complex family dynamics in Kanpur.

In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Anurag Kashyap elaborated on his experiences and observations regarding filmmaking techniques, particularly in the South Indian cinema industry. He noted that there is a distinct and efficient shooting style emerging, where scenes are filmed and edited on the spot. He remarked, 'For me, both parts of Nishaanchi, with special effects, with the actor playing two different kinds of a double role—which I am very proud of—I can very proudly say that it is better than Sinners.' Kashyap emphasized that thorough preparation was taken for portraying the distinct identities of the twin brothers, stating, 'They are really two different people and we shot two months apart.' This rigorous approach contrasts with the double role depicted in 'Sinners', which stars Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers Elijah and Elias Moore.

'Sinners', directed by Ryan Coogler, made history at the 98th Academy Awards by securing 16 nominations, a record for any single film. The film has gained significant attention for its gripping storyline and impactful performances.

Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap is also working on his upcoming film, 'Kennedy', which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, receiving a standing ovation that lasted seven minutes. The film has also been well-received at various international film festivals, including the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Despite facing delays in its release due to production-related issues, 'Kennedy' is set to launch on Zee5 on February 20, 2024, starring prominent actors Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone. Kashyap’s persistence in the industry highlights his dedication to pushing creative boundaries and elevating the standards of Indian cinema.
