Anniversary of Pahalgam Attack Observed with Tributes and Rallies

The first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, was commemorated on April 22, 2026, in Jammu and Kashmir. The occasion was marked by acts of goodwill, rallies, and silent tributes at a memorial dedicated to the victims.

Local leaders in Jammu and Kashmir, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Kashmiri chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, participated in the memorial activities. Their presence served not only to honour those lost but also to emphasise various social and political issues in the region.

In anticipation of potential unrest, security measures were intensified. Checkpoints were established in Pahalgam, and additional personnel were deployed to maintain order during the remembrance.

Numerous tourists, both individually and in small groups, visited the memorial at the high-altitude Baisaran meadow, where many of the civilians tragically lost their lives on that fateful day in 2025.
