Ankita Lokhande Defends Mahhi Vij Amid Online Speculation

The controversy emerged after Mahhi Vij shared an emotional birthday message on social media for Nadim Nadz, a close friend and the chief executive of Salman Khan Films. The post appeared days after Vij and her husband of more than a decade, Jay Bhanushali, announced that they were ending their marriage.

Some social media users interpreted the message as a sign of a romantic relationship, triggering widespread online trolling and speculation. Vij’s message described Nadim as someone deeply important in her life, using language that referred to emotional closeness and long-standing support.

In response, Ankita Lokhande, known for her work in Indian television and film, issued a detailed statement on social media, strongly criticising the rumours and defending both Vij and Nadim.

“Today, I want to say something not as a celebrity, but as a friend,” Lokhande wrote. She said she was disturbed by the way people were commenting on the relationship and emphasised that Nadim had always been a father figure to both Mahhi Vij and Jay Bhanushali, as well as to their daughter.

Lokhande added that relationships built on years of trust and respect should not be judged by outsiders, particularly on the basis of social media posts. She said Nadim had consistently supported many people, including herself, during difficult periods in their lives.

“As a friend, I can say this – Nadim is someone who has supported many of us in tough phases of life. My respect for him is immense,” she wrote.

She also praised Vij and Bhanushali for continuing to co-parent their children despite their separation. Addressing online critics directly, Lokhande urged people to stop spreading negativity and allow individuals to live their lives with dignity.

The statement was later reshared by Jay Bhanushali, who publicly expressed his agreement. “Thank you, Ankita. I agree with every word you have said,” he wrote.

The original speculation followed a birthday post by Mahhi Vij in which she described Nadim as a source of comfort and emotional safety. The message referred to him as family and highlighted a bond developed over many years. Shortly after, photos shared by the couple’s daughter also drew attention, with the child referring to Nadim affectionately as “Abba”, a term often used for a father figure.

While such posts prompted assumptions among some social media users, no public statement from Vij suggested a romantic relationship. Industry figures and family members have since reiterated that Nadim’s role in their lives has been that of a close family friend.
