Amit Shah Criticises Mann Government Over Drug Issues Ahead of Elections
Ahead of the upcoming state elections, Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, has targeted the Government of Punjab, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, over the continuing drug menace in the region. During a public rally in Amritsar, Shah accused the Mann administration of neglecting the rising drug abuse problem, claiming it has worsened under their governance.
Shah highlighted that the drug issue poses a severe threat to the youth of Punjab, urging voters to hold the current government accountable for its failures. He emphasised that the situation had deteriorated significantly, with many families affected by substance abuse.
The Union Minister pointed out concerns over the lack of effective measures taken by the state to combat drug trafficking and addiction, suggesting that Punjab has become a significant hub for illicit drug trade. Shah reiterated calls for a firm stand against drug traffickers and promised that the central government would support the state in tackling this persistent issue.
Critics of the Mann government have also echoed Shah's sentiments, noting that drug-related incidents have surged in recent years. As the electoral campaign intensifies, the handling of this issue may become a pivotal topic influencing voter sentiment in Punjab, where drug abuse has been a pressing concern for many communities.
The remarks come as Shah and other leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ramp up their campaign efforts in Punjab, aiming to expand the party's influence in a region traditionally dominated by other political parties. Polling for the state assembly elections is expected to be highly competitive, with drug-related issues likely to play a crucial role in the discussions leading up to the vote.
