Amit Shah: Complete Eradication of Maoism Targeted by March 31
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announces plans to eliminate Maoist insurgency in India by March 31 during a meeting in Chhattisgarh.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level security review meeting on February 8, 2026, in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, focusing on the issue of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE). This meeting comes as the Centre aims to eliminate the Maoist insurgency across India by the end of March.

In his remarks on social media platform X, Amit Shah indicated that the government has made significant progress in combating Maoism. He stated, "Security-centric strategy, infrastructure, attacks on Naxal financial networks, and surrender policy have yielded positive results, and Maoism is being completely eradicated before March 31."

The meeting was attended by various officials including Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, the Union Home Secretary, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, and the Special Secretary for Internal Security within the Ministry of Home Affairs. Additionally, directors general from multiple security forces such as the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Indo Tibetan Border Police, and the National Investigation Agency were present, as well as senior officers from Chhattisgarh and adjoining states impacted by Maoism.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma suggested that this meeting could mark the last major discussion before the March deadline. He noted the presence of Directors General of Police from various states, alongside Chief Ministers, stating, "This meeting will largely determine the strategy for how to proceed in the future."

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai further highlighted the meeting as a strong signal of progress against Maoism, crediting a "double engine government’s precise security-focused strategy, robust infrastructure, strong attack on Naxal financial networks and effective surrender policy" for the visible improvements in all states affected by Maoism, including Chhattisgarh.

As the deadline approaches, the government's security measures and collaborative efforts across various states are under heightened scrutiny as officials work towards the stated goal of eradicating the insurgency.
