Accused's Father Expresses Grief Over Fatal Dwarka Road Accident
The father of the accused in a fatal Dwarka accident expresses sorrow, while the victim's family seeks justice amid ongoing investigations.

The father of a minor accused in a fatal road accident in Dwarka has expressed his family's deep sorrow following the incident that resulted in the death of 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra. The grievous remark came during a press interaction where the father assured full cooperation with the police as investigations proceed.

Sahil Dhaneshra was tragically killed on February 3 when a speeding SUV, allegedly driven by the minor, collided with his motorcycle. The impact was severe, leading to Sahil's instantaneous death and additionally injuring the driver of a parked cab that was struck by the vehicle post-collision. In a statement to the media, the father of the accused conveyed that the vehicle belonged to their family's commercial fleet and informed that the challan, or traffic citation, is attributed to other drivers in the family.

The father stated, "Our entire family is disturbed by the incident. I am extremely sorry for what happened and, being a parent, I can understand what Sahil's mother must be going through." His comments reflect the family's attempt to respond to public outrage surrounding the tragic event.

Following the accident, the 17-year-old driver was apprehended on the same day and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), leading to his placement in an observation home. However, on February 10, he was granted interim bail to resume preparation for his forthcoming Class 10 board examinations. The board had recognised the juvenile's educational commitments and balanced this with the need for rehabilitation.

Sahil’s mother, Inna Dhaneshra, has actively been vocal about her grief and calls for justice, stating, "Sorry will not bring my son back." Her words encapsulate the pain felt by the family as they navigate their loss associated with the juvenile's actions.

The police have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against the minor under several charges, including rash driving and causing death through negligent acts. Furthermore, the minor's father is also facing charges under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, which implicates guardians or vehicle proprietors when minors commit driving offences.

The board's order indicated that the minor displayed signs of apathy towards the consequences of his actions. A review by the JJB detailed that the juvenile, during inquiries, appeared to demonstrate no remorse for the tragedy, nor did he grasp the significance of the life he had taken instead of remaining aware of his responsibilities regarding road safety.

As investigations continue, the authorities are working closely to address the pressing issues raised by both the victim’s family and the community. The incident has opened discussions on the accountability of adult guardians for such tragedies and the reforms needed within the juvenile justice system to ensure that safety on the roads is prioritised.

As it stands, the judicial proceedings are expected to shed further light on the developments surrounding this case, with a subsequent hearing set for March 9, when the ongoing court processes and petitions will be further examined.
