Prajakta Koli aka 'Mostly Sane' featured on the maiden TIME 100 Creators list 2025
Indian content creator Prajakta Koli joins the TIME 100 Creators list, marking the first time an Indian has been recognised among the world’s top digital voices.
Prajakta Koli, who has amassed millions of followers across YouTube and Instagram, has been included in TIME magazine’s first-ever list celebrating the most influential digital content creators globally. The announcement places her alongside well-known figures such as Indian-origin British author and life coach Jay Shetty, American technology YouTuber Marques Brownlee, and TikTok personality Charli D’Amelio.
Koli, popularly known by her channel name MostlySane, was recognised in the Entertainment category. She expressed gratitude in an Instagram post, writing, “There’s so much I should be feeling right now, and even more I should be saying. But honestly, in this moment, only two words come to mind: thank you.” She credited her audience, family, and team for their support throughout her career.
According to TIME, Koli has emerged as one of India’s most widely followed comedy creators. Since launching her YouTube channel in 2015, she has gained over 7 million subscribers on YouTube and more than 8 million followers on Instagram. Her content often draws inspiration from Indian family life, with sketches exploring cultural habits and generational differences. One of her most viewed videos, titled “Every Family Meal Ever,” has received more than 6 million views.
Transition to Acting
Koli has successfully expanded her career into acting. In 2020, she appeared in the short film Khayali Pulao and later played the lead role of Dimple Ahuja in the Netflix romantic comedy series Mismatched, which has run for three seasons. She has also acted in Hindi films such as Jugjugg Jeeyo, alongside Anil Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Kiara Advani, and more recently appeared in Neeyat.
Her role in Mismatched has been particularly praised for resonating with younger audiences and showcasing modern relationships in India.
Industry Recognition
Industry observers say Koli’s inclusion in the TIME 100 Creators list highlights the growing impact of Indian digital talent on the global stage. The list aims to celebrate individuals who have shaped culture and conversation through digital platforms, spanning categories from entertainment to education.
Koli is the only India-born creator recognised this year, although Indian-origin personalities such as Jay Shetty also featured. Other names on the list include Taylor Frankie Paul, known for lifestyle content, and Heidi Wong, who is noted for her poetry.
In her statement, Koli reflected on her early days as a creator without formal training or a clear strategy, saying, “Thank you to 21-year-old Prajakta, who dove headfirst into storytelling as a creator with no plan, no prep, no roadmap… just heart.”
Context
Digital content creation has become a major force in India’s entertainment and media industries. Platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok have provided creators with unprecedented reach and influence, reshaping how audiences consume entertainment.
India has emerged as one of the world’s largest markets for online video, with millions of users accessing content daily on mobile devices. Creators such as Prajakta Koli have leveraged this shift to build powerful personal brands that extend beyond social media into film, publishing, and activism.
Analysts note that Koli’s recognition by TIME signals a broader acknowledgment of India’s creative economy and its ability to generate globally relevant voices. As audiences continue to diversify across platforms, content creators are expected to play an increasingly central role in cultural exchange and storytelling.
