Tata Motors Launches Harrier EV in India, Bookings Begin 2 July
Tata Motors has officially launched the Harrier EV, a fully electric version of its popular SUV, with prices starting at ₹21.49 lakh ($25,700) ex-showroom. The company announced that customer bookings will open on 2 July 2025.

The Harrier EV, known formally as the Harrier.ev, marks Tata Motors' continued push into the electric vehicle (EV) segment. The vehicle will be available in three main variants—Adventure, Fearless, and Empowered—alongside a special Stealth Edition. Colour options include Pristine White, Pure Grey, Empowered Oxide, and Nainital Nocturne.

Dual Battery Options and High Performance
The Harrier EV will be offered with two battery configurations: 65kWh and 75kWh. The 65kWh version is paired with a single electric motor driving the rear wheels, delivering 235bhp. The more powerful 75kWh version features dual motors and a quad-wheel drive system (QWD), producing 390bhp and 504Nm of torque. According to Tata Motors, the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds.

The rear-wheel drive model offers a driving range of up to 505km, while the QWD variant can achieve up to 627km on a single charge, under ideal conditions. The vehicle also supports fast charging, capable of adding 250km of range in just 15 minutes.

Advanced Architecture and Features
Built on Tata's new acti.ev+ platform, the Harrier EV is designed specifically for electric mobility. The company also offers a lifetime warranty on the vehicle’s battery pack, a move aimed at addressing consumer concerns about battery longevity and replacement costs.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said:

“With the launch of Harrier.ev, we are not just introducing a new electric SUV or challenging convention — we are rewriting the rules of what’s possible. Born of legendary pedigree and engineered for tomorrow, the Harrier.ev is India’s most capable SUV.”

The vehicle is equipped with an extensive set of features, including a 14.53-inch infotainment screen powered by Samsung’s Neo QLED technology, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, autonomous parking assist with summon mode, and vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-load charging capabilities. Safety features include seven airbags, hill descent control, a 540-degree surround camera system, and over 20 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Competition and Market Context
The Harrier EV enters a growing but competitive market for electric SUVs in India. Its primary rival is the Mahindra BE 6, which features a larger 79kWh battery in its top variant and boasts a slightly longer maximum range of 638km. The BE 6 starts at ₹19.40 lakh and goes up to ₹27.40 lakh, placing it in a similar price range as the Harrier EV.

While both vehicles offer modern designs and high-end features, the Harrier EV focuses on blending traditional SUV styling with advanced electric performance, whereas the Mahindra BE 6 opts for a sleeker, coupe-like design built on Mahindra’s INGLO platform.

Background: India’s EV Push
India is one of the fastest-growing markets for electric vehicles, driven by government incentives and increasing consumer awareness of environmental issues. Tata Motors has been a front-runner in the sector, with earlier models like the Nexon EV and Tigor EV gaining popularity. The introduction of the Harrier EV is seen as a move to expand the brand's electric portfolio into the premium SUV segment.

Industry analysts suggest that Tata Motors’ aggressive EV strategy could help it maintain a leadership position as competition intensifies. The launch of the Harrier EV, with its robust range, powerful drivetrain, and premium features, is expected to appeal to both early adopters and traditional SUV buyers transitioning to electric mobility.

Outlook
With bookings opening in early July and production-ready models already showcased, Tata Motors is aiming for a swift ramp-up in deliveries. Market response over the next few months will be crucial in determining the Harrier EV’s success in the increasingly crowded electric SUV segment.

If successful, the Harrier EV could further strengthen Tata Motors' foothold in India's electric vehicle market and set the tone for more high-performance EV launches in the coming years.
