Tom Cruise has said he would like to make a Bollywood film one day, calling India a country he deeply admires, during the Indian release of Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning.

The 62-year-old American actor shared his thoughts in a video message released to coincide with the film’s early premiere in India. In the widely circulated clip, Cruise spoke Hindi and reflected on his past visit to the country, recalling the warmth of its people and culture.

The actor’s message comes ahead of the global release of Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning, the eighth and final film in the long-running action franchise, where he reprises his role as intelligence agent Ethan Hunt. The film debuted in Indian cinemas on 17 May, five days before its worldwide release.

Hindi tribute and fond memories

In the video, Cruise is seen repeating the Hindi phrase "Main aap sabse bohot pyaar karta hoon" (I love you all a lot) and adding, "Mujpe bharosa karo, ek aakhri baar" (Trust me one last time), a nod to his character’s final mission in the series.

Speaking to Indian actress and presenter Avneet Kaur in an earlier interview, Cruise reminisced about his 2011 visit to India during the promotion of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which included a trip to the Taj Mahal and a premiere event in Mumbai.

“I feel so much love for India. Amazing country, amazing people, amazing culture,” he said. “Every single moment, from the moment I landed, to going to the Taj Mahal, to spending the time in Mumbai with Anil [Kapoor] and all the people at the night of the premiere… I remember every moment quite vividly.”

Cruise added that he enjoys travelling and working across cultures, and expressed a wish to return to India not only as a visitor but as a collaborator in Indian cinema.

Admiration for Bollywood

The Oscar-nominated actor, known for his roles in Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, and the Mission: Impossible series, praised the distinctiveness and creativity of Bollywood films.

“I love Bollywood films. The skill that it takes you to do what you all do is so natural,” Cruise said. “I love that you’re in this drama or comedy and suddenly it breaks out into a song. I love it. It’s something that I’ve grown up watching—musicals, dramas. Your culture is something I would like to be a part of.”

He also described Indian food as “amazing” and mentioned his fondness for the vibrant aesthetics and performance traditions of Indian cinema, particularly the ability of actors to seamlessly combine singing, dancing, and acting.

“I would love to make a Bollywood-style movie. It would be so much fun and amazing to do that,” he said. “I love the dancing and the singing—it would be so much fun to do that.”

Global fan response

Cruise’s message has been widely shared on social media platforms, with Indian fans expressing delight at his attempt to speak Hindi and his affectionate tone. The video has been reposted by multiple entertainment accounts and has drawn praise for the actor’s respectful and enthusiastic approach.

Avneet Kaur, who first met Cruise during a studio-organised visit to the London sets of Mission: Impossible 8, was among a group of international content creators invited by Paramount Pictures to experience the making of the film. She later interviewed Cruise ahead of the India release.

Hollywood and Bollywood collaboration

While cross-industry collaborations between Hollywood and Bollywood remain limited, Cruise’s comments come amid growing cultural exchange between Western and Indian entertainment industries.

Several Indian actors, including Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor, have appeared in Hollywood films in recent years, and Indian themes are gaining increased visibility on international streaming platforms.

If realised, a Bollywood project featuring Cruise would mark a significant moment in cinematic crossovers, possibly expanding the global appeal of Indian film storytelling and musical traditions.

For now, Indian fans are celebrating the actor’s recognition of their cinema and culture—and holding out hope for a future film that bridges the two worlds.
