Indian actress Manjari Fadnis has described former co-star Imran Khan’s departure from Bollywood as a personal decision, adding that he still enjoys significant fan support and admiration.
Manjari Fadnis, who played Meghna Pariyar in the 2008 coming-of-age romantic filmJaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, has spoken about her co-star Imran Khan's decision to leave the Hindi film industry.
In an interview with the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), Fadnis responded to questions about Khan’s prolonged absence from the screen. “Whatever Imran chose to do was his personal decision,” she said. “He had great opportunities, and he still has a strong fan base. People are eagerly waiting for his return. I’d love to work with him again, but this question is better directed to him.”
Imran Khan, who made a notable debut inJaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na—produced by Aamir Khan Productions—emerged as a popular face in the late 2000s and early 2010s. However, after a series of commercial and critical challenges, including his last appearance in the 2015 filmKatti Batti alongside Kangana Ranaut, he gradually retreated from the limelight.
Reconnecting with Co-Stars
Fadnis revealed that while she is not in regular contact with all her former co-stars, she has occasionally met Khan since their film together. “I’m in touch with Abbas, Pakhi, and occasionally with Imran—we’ve met a few times after the shoot,” she shared. “I bump into Genelia [D’Souza] at events.”
She also reflected on other professional collaborations where deeper friendships were formed. On the sets of the survival thrillerWarning, she formed lasting bonds with colleagues including Varun Sharma, Jitin Gulati, director Gurmeet Singh, and Madhurima Tuli. “We all bonded really well and are still close,” she said.
A Steady Career in Multiple Languages
Fadnis, who has worked across several Indian film industries, expressed satisfaction with her acting career so far. “My journey so far has been beautiful,” she noted. “I chose what I wanted to do in life, and luckily, even though I didn’t come from a film background, I received many opportunities and got the chance to work with some really good people. It’s been a steady journey, but I'm still here—and I love being here.”
The actress has featured in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, and Marathi films. Reflecting on her experience, she said that working in the Marathi industry was the most comfortable for her. “Marathi was the easiest for me because it’s my mother tongue,” she explained. “I’ve heard it since childhood, although I sometimes make grammatical errors due to growing up in different parts of the country—my father was in the army.”
Imran Khan, nephew of actor Aamir Khan, had a promising start in Bollywood, withJaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na becoming a cultural hit. However, despite initial success, his later films did not perform as well at the box office. His decision to step away from acting has been a subject of speculation and discussion in entertainment circles, especially among fans who continue to follow his past work.
There has been a renewed interest in Khan in recent months, partly due to retrospectives on popular 2000s cinema and nostalgic appreciation from audiences. Although there has been no formal announcement about a comeback, industry colleagues like Fadnis acknowledge both his talent and the affection he continues to receive from the public.
For now, Khan’s future in the film industry remains uncertain, but the door, according to many of his admirers and former co-stars, remains open.
