Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the Chief Guest for India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday (January 16, 2025).
The two-day State Visit on January 25-26, 2025 will be President Prabowo’s first visit to India in his capacity as President, after assuming office in October 2024.

The forthcoming State Visit of President Prabowo will provide an opportunity for the leaders to undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral ties as well as to discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest, the MEA pointed out.
In keeping with tradition, India invites world leaders to attend its Republic Day celebrations every year.
Last year, French President Emmanuel Macron graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was invited for the occasion in 2023.
There was no Republic Day Chief Guest in 2021 and 2022 in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebration in 2020, while the Chief Guest in 2019 was South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
In 2018, leaders of all 10 ASEAN countries attended the event.
Other world leaders who have attended the Republic Day celebration in the past include, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (in 2017), former French President Francois Hollande (in 2016) and then US President Barack Obama (in 2015).
