During his visit, EAM Jaishankar will also have meetings with representatives of the incoming administration, the MEA said
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar will represent India at President-Elect Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony in Washington DC on January 20, 2025, an official announcement said on Sunday (January 13, 2025).

“On the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent the Government of India at the Swearing-In Ceremony of President-Elect Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

Trump earlier served as the 45th President of the US from January 2017 to January 2021.

During the visit, EAM will also have meetings with representatives of the incoming Administration, as also some other dignitaries visiting the US on that occasion, the MEA stated.

Ensuring Continuity and Strength in India-US Strategic Partnership
EAM Jaishankar visited Washington DC last month for meetings with key members of the outgoing Biden administration and the incoming Trump administration, including National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Congressman Michael Waltz, who has been announced as his successor.

This marked the first high-level contact between Indian officials and members of the incoming Trump administration, reflecting India’s proactive approach to ensuring continuity and strength in its strategic partnership with the US.

NSA Sullivan subsequently undertook a two-day visit to New Delhi last week. Meeting his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval on January 6, 2025, Sullivan announced that the US would remove restrictions on nuclear and scientific entities of India.

“Reflecting the progress the United States and India have made—and will continue to make—as strategic partners and countries with a shared commitment to peaceful nuclear cooperation, NSA Sullivan announced US efforts to finalize necessary steps to delist Indian nuclear entities, which will promote civil nuclear cooperation and resilient clean energy supply chains,” a joint press release issued after their meeting said.

Addressing the media on January 3, 2025, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the depth and resilience of India-US relations. He stated, “The India-US partnership is expansive, encompassing strong economic and technological collaboration”.

India looks forward to deepening ties with the new US administration under President-elect Trump, Jaiswal added.
