EAM Jaishankar affirms the priority India attaches to the development of cooperation with Bahrain
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has highlighted new opportunities for cooperation between India and Bahrain in sectors like space, education, FinTech, and technology. Co-chairing the 4th India - Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting with Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani in Manama on Monday (December 9, 2024), he invited investors from Bahrain to explore opportunities in India. 

“Pleased to co-chair the 4th India - Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting alongside FM Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani in Manama today. 

Took stock of our bilateral relationship focusing on trade, investments, healthcare, energy, security, tourism and people to people ties. Discussed new opportunities in space, education, FinTech and technology.

Also exchanged views on recent developments in the region,” EAM Jaishankar posted on social media platform X, formerly Twitter. 

In his opening remarks, EAM Jaishankar referred to the common commitment to peace, security, and the pursuit of development and prosperity of the people as well as the region. “We see great potential in many new areas like space, education, FinTech, and science & technology. I would like to take the opportunity to affirm the priority we attach to the development of cooperation with Bahrain,” he stated. 

Highlighting “significant progress” in trade and investment in recent years, EAM Jaishankar expressed the desire to develop this positive momentum. “India welcomes investors from Bahrain to come and explore opportunities in India,” he said.

While in Manama, EAM Jaishankar called on Bahrain Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and thanked the government for ensuring the welfare of the Indian community in the country. “Glad to meet DPM Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa of Bahrain today. Value his insights for taking forward our cooperation. Thanked his Government for ensuring the welfare of the Indian community,” he posted on X.

On Sunday, EAM Jaishankar addressed the 20th edition of the IISS Manama Dialogue and highlighted political-diplomatic cooperation at a time when the world is polarised. He spoke about how India's diplomatic efforts in recent times have focused on the tensions between Israel and Iran.

“In recent times, for all of us, the relationship or absence of it between Israel and Iran has been particularly a source of concern, so some of our diplomatic efforts have focused on that particular aspect. There has been the situation in the Red Sea as well,” EAM Jaishankar noted.

EAM Jaishankar was in Manama during the second leg of his four-day two-nation visit to Qatar and Bahrain.
