Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Tabar reaches Denmark to strengthen bilateral defence ties
INS Tabar arrives at the Esbjerg port in Denmark on August 19, 2024.
The Indian Navy says it is committed to fostering partnerships with navies across the world
After visits to St Petersburg in Russia, Hamburg in Germany, London in the United Kingdom, and Gothenburg in Sweden, the Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate INS Tabar has arrived in Esbjerg in Denmark on a two-day visit as part of the ongoing deployment in the region. This special occasion celebrates 75 years of strong friendship between India and Denmark.

The ongoing visit by INS Tabar to Esbjerg, Denmark aims to enhance the existing bonds between both nations and navies, India’s Ministry of Defence said on Sunday (August 18, 2024).

INS Tabar is equipped with a versatile range of weapons and sensors and is among the earliest stealth frigates of the Indian Navy. The ship is part of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet which is based at Mumbai under the Western Naval Command.

During the stay in Esbjerg harbour, the ship’s crew will participate in various bilateral professional interactions with the Danish Armed Forces, including cultural exchange. “The Indian Navy remains committed to fostering partnerships with navies across the world,” the ministry added.

Diplomatic relations between India and Denmark are based on historical links, common democratic traditions and shared desire for regional, as well as international peace and stability. The bilateral relationship was elevated to the level of a ‘Green Strategic Partnership’ during the Virtual Summit held between India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on September 28, 2020.

Last month, INS Tabar made a port visit to Hamburg, Germany from July 17 to 20, 2024 as part of a broader initiative to enhance maritime cooperation and foster stronger ties between the Indian and German navies.

On July 28, 2024, the Indian Navy stealth frigate sailed into the Russian port of St Petersburg to participate in the Russian Navy Day celebrations. INS Tabar also participated in a PASSEX (Passing Exercise) with the Russian Navy on July, 30, 2024. Later, on August 5, 2024, INS Tabar, conducted a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) with the German Navy off the Kiel Canal.

INS Tabar then sailed into the United Kingdom, arriving at London harbour for a four-day visit on August 7, 2024, before reaching Gothenburg, Sweden, on August 14, 2024 on a two-day visit during which it also celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day.
