India attends global meet on Ukraine in Switzerland

At the two-day summit, India pitched for the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine-Russia conflict through dialogue and diplomacy
Just a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 meeting in Italy that India continues to encourage a peaceful resolution of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, New Delhi sent Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Pavan Kapoor to Switzerland to attend the two-day summit on peace in Ukraine.
However, India did not associate itself with any joint communique or document emerging from this summit, held on June 15-16, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement released on Sunday.
“India’s participation in the summit, as well as in the preceding NSA/Political Director-level meetings based on Ukraine’s Peace Formula, was in line with our consistent approach to facilitate a lasting and peaceful resolution to the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy,” the MEA said.
“We continue to believe that such a resolution requires a sincere and practical engagement between the two parties to the conflict. In this regard, India will continue to remain engaged with all stakeholders as well as both the parties to contribute to all earnest efforts to bring about an early and abiding peace,” the Ministry added.
The Indian delegation attended the opening and closing plenary sessions of the summit which was held at Burgenstock in Switzerland, the MEA maintained.
The summit began a day after G7 leaders agreed in Italy to provide a $50-billion loan to help Ukraine in its fight for survival. Saudi Arabia, India, UAE, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico were among countries that participated in the summit, but did not sign the joint communique issued after the summit, the Swiss government said on Sunday.
