Our nations look forward to collaborating in futuristic sectors which will benefit our planet, says PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has held a series of meetings with Qatar's top leadership, days after the release of 8 former Indian Navy officers who had been jailed in the West Asian nation. 
 
Prime Minister Modi met the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Amiri Palace in Doha on Thursday (February15, 2024). Both sides held delegation-level and restricted talks after Prime Minister Modi was given a ceremonial welcome.
 
"Had a wonderful meeting with HH Sheikh @TamimBinHamad. We reviewed the full range of India-Qatar relations and discussed ways to deepen cooperation across various sectors. Our nations also look forward to collaborating in futuristic sectors which will benefit our planet," Prime Minister Modi posted on social media platform X. 
 
The discussions covered a wide array of topics including economic cooperation, investments, energy partnership, space collaboration, urban infrastructure, cultural bonds and people-to-people ties, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues.
 
According to the MEA, Prime Minister Modi thanked the Amir for taking care of the over 8 lakh strong Indian community in Qatar and conveyed India’s commitment to further expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation with Qatar. 
 
Qatar's Amir reciprocated Prime Minister Modi's sentiments and expressed appreciation for India's role as a valued partner in the Gulf region. He also appreciated the contributions of the vibrant Indian community in Qatar’s development and their enthusiastic participation in various international events held in Qatar, the MEA added.
 
After landing in Doha on Wednesday (February14, 2024), PM Modi met with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. He is meeting Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Thursday (February 15, 2024).
 
The two leaders exchanged views on expanding bilateral cooperation in sectors such as trade, investment, energy, finance, and technology, the MEA said. They also discussed recent regional developments in West Asia and emphasized the importance of upholding peace and stability in the region and beyond.
 
Thereafter, Prime Minister Modi attended a dinner hosted in his honour by the Prime Minister of Qatar.
 
"Had a wonderful meeting with PM @MBA_AlThani_. Our discussions revolved around ways to boost India-Qatar friendship," Prime Minister Modi posted on social media platform X. 
 
Prime Minister Modi was earlier received by State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi at the airport on his arrival in Qatar. "Landed in Doha. Looking forward to a fruitful Qatar visit which will deepen India-Qatar friendship," Prime Minister Modi said on X.
