A Maritime Partnership Exercise is scheduled in the South China Sea with an off-shore patrol vessel of the Philippine Navy
The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kadmatt arrived at the Port of Manila, Philippines on December 12, 2023 in a demonstration of the growing maritime relationship between the two nations. The ship is on a long-range deployment to the South China Sea.
During the Port Call, a wide range of engagements have been planned between personnel of both the Navies. These include professional interactions, Subject Matter Expert Exchange and cross deck visits, aimed at enhancing cooperation and exchanging best practices, the Ministry of Defence said on (Thursday December 14, 2023).
Once INS Kadmatt leaves Manila, a Maritime Partnership Exercise is scheduled in the South China Sea with BRP Ramon Alcaraz, an off-shore patrol vessel of the Philippine Navy, the ministry added.
“The visit is aimed at bolstering maritime cooperation between India and Philippines,” the Ministry of Defence said.
INS Kadmatt, an indigenously-built Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) corvette, has been a crucial base of the Indian Navy's expanding capabilities. With its advanced sensors and weaponry, the ship has played a pivotal role in numerous naval exercises and missions, complimenting India’s growing maritime prowess.
The vessel's journey to Manila aligns the Indian Navy's commitment to securing regional maritime stability.
The Mission’s Purpose
The visit of INS Kadmatt to Manila represents a diplomatic as well as military outreach, enhancing goodwill and cooperation between India and the Philippines. As the Indian Navy ship anchored at the Port of Manila, the Philippine Navy accorded a ceremonial reception. The Indian tricolor and the Philippine flag fluttered in unison, reflecting the amicable relations between the two. The event was graced by dignitaries from both nations.
In addition to naval operations and professional interactions, visits by school children and community outreach/ social impact activities are also planned during the visit.
This visit is a strategic milestone within the broader context of India's 'Act East' policy, emphasizing engagement with Southeast Asian countries. In the backdrop of the dynamic South China Sea region, INS Kadmatt's presence in Manila is a diplomatic signal of solidarity and cooperation in ensuring regional maritime security and freedom of navigation.
