On the sidelines of COP 28 Summit, PM Modi held bilateral meetings with international leaders and exchanged views on issues of global and regional importance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meetings with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and several heads of state and government, including UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, French President Emmanuel Macron, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and several other leaders on the sidelines of COP 28 Summit in Dubai on Friday.
 
Prime Minister Modi met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and exchanged views on priorities and concerns of the Global South related to Climate Action, climate finance, technology and reforms of the multilateral governance and financial institutions, including the UN, the MEA said.
 
He thanked the UN Secretary General for his support during India’s G20 Presidency and also highlighted India’s initiatives and progress in achieving climate goals.

The UN Secretary-General appreciated India's efforts in the areas of sustainable development, climate action, MDB reforms, and disaster management under the G20 Presidency. He welcomed PM Modi's Green Credit Initiative.
 
The UN Secretary General affirmed to work with India to build on the achievements of India’s Presidency and take them forward at the UN Summit of the Future 2024, the MEA added.

Prime Minister Modi reviewed wide ranging and vibrant bilateral ties with the UAE during a meeting President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the COP 28 Summit in Dubai. They also exchanged views on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
 
According to the MEA, the Indian Prime Minister also congratulated Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for successfully hosting the COP-28 Summit and thanked the UAE President for co-hosting the high-level event on Green Climate Programme (GCP) at the COP 28.
 
Prime Minister Modi invited the UAE President for the Vibrant Gujarat Summit to be held next month.

He also held a meeting with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad and held a “good conversation on the potential of bilateral partnership and the well-being of the Indian community in Qatar,” PM Modi said in his post on X.
 
On the sidelines of the COP28, the Indian Prime Minister also held fruitful discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron. 
 
The two leaders, according to the MEA, exchanged views on a wide range of areas, including climate action, climate financing, sports, energy, defence, and civil nuclear cooperation.
 
As this was the first in-person meeting between Narendra Modi and Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, the Indian Prime Minister congratulated the latter on his assumption of office in the archipelagic state.
 
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, during the meeting, both leaders reviewed the wide-ranging bilateral relations between the two countries, including people to people linkages, development cooperation, economic relations, climate change and sports.
 
The two leaders also discussed ways to further deepen their partnership. In this regard, they agreed to set up a core group, the MEA added.
 
In the course of his meeting with Israeli President, Isaac Herzog in Dubai, Prime Minister Modi expressed his condolences on the loss of lives in the October 7 terror attacks and discussed the on-going Israel-Hamas conflict. Prime Minister Modi welcomed the release of hostages, the MEA said.
 
Israeli President Isaac Herzog congratulated Prime Minister Modi on the success of India’s G20 Presidency and welcomed the launch of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, the MEA maintained.
 
Prime Minister Modi also met Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and both exchanged views on deepening their wide-ranging bilateral relations in the areas of health, education, pharmaceuticals and traditional medicine.
 
Prime Minister Modi, who thanked Mirziyoyev for Uzbekistan’s participation in the Voice of Global South Summit held recently in the virtual format, assured the Uzbekistan President of India’s support to expand development partnership with the Central Asian country, the ministry said.

The two leaders, as per the MEA, also discussed regional and multilateral issues, including the EU, the Nordic Council, and the Nordic-Baltic Group. Prime Minister Modi congratulated Prime Minister Kristersson for Sweden’s successful presidency of the EU Council.
 
Prime Minister Modi also held a bilateral meeting with President of the Swiss Confederation Alain Berset and discussed ways to further deepen their partnership, including cooperation in trade and investment, technology, health, education, IT, tourism, and people-to-people ties. According to the MEA, the two leaders’ discussion also covered regional and global issues of mutual interest.
 
The Swiss Confederation President congratulated Prime Minister Modi for the success of India’s G20 Presidency and the Summit.
