Prime Minister Modi expresses shared concerns regarding terrorism, violence and loss of civilian lives
Continuing his outreach and engagement with the top political leadership in West Asian nations in the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (October 23, 2023) spoke with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the two leaders exchanged views on the developments in the West Asia region. Prime Minister Modi also expressed shared concerns regarding terrorism, violence and loss of civilian lives and emphasized the need for concerted efforts for early resolution of the security and humanitarian situation, the PMO added.

"Spoke with His Majesty @KingAbdullahII of Jordan. Exchanged views on the developments in the West Asia region. We share concerns regarding terrorism, violence and loss of civilian lives. Concerted efforts needed for early resolution of the security and humanitarian situation," Prime Minister Modi said on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

Earlier this month, speaking with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on October 19, 2023, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his condolences at the loss of civilian lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza, where an explosion on October 17, 2023 had left hundreds of people dead. Both Israel and the Palestine-based Hamas militant group have accused each other of carrying out an attack.

Prime Minister Modi said he shared India’s deep concern at the terrorism, violence and deteriorating security situation in the region. During the call, he also reiterated India's long-standing principled position on the Israel-Palestine issue, he said in a post on social media platform X. He also said India would continue to send humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people.

Palestine-based Hamas militants had launched an unprecedented attack on Israeli locations on October 7, 2023, firing at least 2,500 rockets into the country.

Armed groups broke through the fencing around the Gaza Strip and attacked Israeli settlements, killing several hundred people including over 200 attending a music concert. The militants also took about 200 people, including women and children, hostage.

The Israeli Defence Forces responded with their full might using air power to target what they say are locations of the Hamas leadership in the Gaza area. According to reports, over 4,000 people have been killed from both sides since October 7.

India stands firmly with Israel, Prime Minister Modi said on Tuesday October 10, 2023 after his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with him on phone and updated him on the ongoing situation after the terrorist attacks on Israel by Hamas.

Condemning terrorism in all its forms, Prime Minister Modi expressed solidarity with Israel at this difficult time.

"I thank Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his phone call and providing an update on the ongoing situation. People of India stand firmly with Israel in this difficult hour. India strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," Prime Minister Modi posted on X.
