Jaishankar will lead Indian delegation at India-Vietnam Joint Commission in Hanoi
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar who has embarked on a six-day (October 15 to 20) trip to Vietnam and Singapore, visited the historical Tran Quac Pagoda in Hanoi on Sunday.
Posting a text on X, Jaishankar said, “Visited the historical Tran Quoc Pagoda in Hanoi. The age-old links between India and Vietnam are symbolized by the Bodhi tree here. Was gifted by President Rajendra Prasad in 1959 to President Ho Chi Minh.”
Earlier, EAM Jaishankar unveiled the bust of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at the International Friendship Park in Bac Ninh province that lies east of the capital, Hanoi.
“Unveiled the bust of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at the International Friendship Park in Bac Ninh province. Gurudev’s works are widely known and appreciated throughout Vietnam. Sure that this will enhance the international reputation of Bac Ninh province and further its strong ties with India,” Jaishankar said in his post on X.
EAM Jaishankar is visiting Vietnam from October 15 to 18, at the invitation of Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Southeast Asian nation, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
On October 16, he will co-chair the 18th Meeting of India-Vietnam Joint Commission on Economic, Trade, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation with his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son.
Jaishankar, as per the MEA, is also expected to hold talks with the Vietnamese leadership.
He is also expected to meet members of the Indian community and unveil Mahatma Gandhi’s bust in Ho Chi Minh City.
India and Vietnam share a robust Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Vietnam is a key member of our Act East Policy.
EAM Jaishankar visit will provide an opportunity to review progress in several areas and discuss ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation between India and Vietnam, the MEA said.
In the second leg of the two Southeast Asian nations’ trip, EAM Jaishankar will travel to Singapore on an official visit on October 19-20 October 2023.
India and Singapore enjoy a historical relationship which was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2015.
In 2023, both sides had several Ministerial interactions on the sidelines of G20 held under India’s Presidency, for which Singapore was invited as a guest country.
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited New Delhi to participate in the G20 Summit in September this year.
During his visit, EAM Jaishankar will meet his Singaporean counterpart and the top leadership of the country.
He will also chair the regional conference of Indian Heads of Missions, the MEA added.
