Prime Minister Modi highlights India's priorities and approach towards the G20 Summit
Writing on his official blog, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shed light on India's priorities and approach towards the G20 Summit, highlighting the need to shift from a GDP-centric viewpoint to a more human-centric one.

In a blog post on Thursday (September 7, 2023), PM Modi wrote, "The post-pandemic world order is very different from the world before it."

He then went on to highlight three important changes.

1. There is a growing realisation that a shift away from a GDP-centric view of the world to a human-centric view is needed.

2. The world is recognizing the importance of resilience and reliability in global supply chains.

3. There is a collective call for boosting multilateralism through the reform of global institutions.

"Our G20 Presidency has played the role of a catalyst in these shifts," Prime Minister Modi noted.

He highlighted the prevailing notion that a GDP-centric perspective has dominated global dialogues for too long. Such a viewpoint often overlooks the well-being of individual citizens and focuses primarily on economic indicators.

Instead, the Prime Minister stressed the significance of a human-centric approach, one that values the quality of life, health, and happiness of the citizens over mere economic numbers. This perspective aligns with India's ancient ethos of seeing the world as a single family – "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam."

Furthermore, on the topic of climate change, Prime Minister Modi emphasized a departure from traditional restrictive methods, which have largely centered on limitations and what shouldn't be done. He advocated a more constructive outlook, focusing on sustainable innovations, boosting green industries, and harnessing renewable energy. The emphasis is not just on preventing harm but also actively contributing positively to global ecological well-being.

Underlining the essence of inclusivity, PM Modi mentioned the initiative of organizing over 200 meetings in 60 Indian cities during India's G20 presidency. These meetings, spanning the vast and diverse geography of India, have been projected to host around 100,000 delegates from 125 countries.

The purpose behind these extensive consultations, as implied by Prime Minister Modi, is to make the G20's mission a people-driven movement, ensuring every voice, no matter how distant, is heard on the global stage. This initiative underpins the significance of local opinions and expertise in framing global policies.

Prime Minister Modi's blog acts as a dual-faceted tool in the realm of global diplomacy. On one hand, it transparently showcases India's focal points for the G20 Summit, giving a clear picture of the nation's aspirations and leadership stance. On the other, it represents a bridge between elite international dialogues and the everyday Indian. Through this direct communication channel, Prime Minister Modi is not just informing but also involving the public, elevating the discourse around the summit. This democratization of information not only amplifies the summit's reach but also fosters a sense of relatability and ownership among common citizens.

In conclusion, PM Modi's reflections serve as a window into the heart of India's aspirations for the G20 Summit. The emphasis is not just on economic progression but on holistic growth that values human connections and the environment. By foregrounding collaboration, sustainability, and a human-centric approach, he underscores the need for global partnerships to address shared challenges.

His invocation of the ancient Sanskrit phrase "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" - which translates to 'the world is one family' - is particularly poignant. With his reiteration of this philosophy, the message is clear – in this interconnected world, the well-being of each individual impacts the well-being of all.
