PM Modi explained that Mission LiFE aims to democratize the fight against climate change
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India's efforts to promote sustainable living while addressing a World Bank event on Saturday (April 15, 2023).

In a video message at the event, 'Making it Personal: How Behavioral Change Can Tackle Climate Change', Prime Minister
Modi recognized the value of individuals making tiny contributions to combat climate change. He cited Chanakya and stressed that while each good deed for the earth can seem little on its own, the impact is enormous when billions of people throughout the world perform it together.

“By itself, each good deed for the planet may seem insignificant. But when billions across the world do it together, the impact is huge. We believe that individuals making the right decisions for our planet are key in the battle for our planet. This is the core of Mission LiFE,” he said.

PM Modi explained how Mission LiFE came to life and said that its goal is to democratize the fight against climate change. He included examples from India to illustrate his points, such as the increased sex ratio, the push for cleanliness, the adoption of LED lights, the use of micro-irrigation to conserve water, the adoption of natural agricultural methods, and the promotion of millets.

He further elaborated the government's efforts under Mission LIFE are dispersed over areas including making local bodies environmentally friendly, conserving water, saving energy, decreasing trash and e-waste, and implementing healthy lifestyles. He added that by 2030, these efforts are anticipated to save over 22 billion units of energy, nine trillion liters of water, 350 million tons of waste, almost a million tons of electronic waste, and approximately 170 million dollars in additional costs, which will also prevent the waste of 15 billion tons of food.

PM Modi stressed international organizations’ role in pressuring nations to adopt sustainable living. At last, he called for adequate financing methods to be worked out for behavioral initiatives like Mission LiFE and requested the World Bank to show its support for such initiatives, which would have a multiplier effect.
