More than 300 delegates participated in the two-day event
Startup20, the engagement group formed under India's G20 presidency, successfully wrapped up its second meeting in Gangtok, Sikkim on March 18 and 19, 2023.

The group aims to serve as a dialogue platform for stakeholders in the global startup ecosystem, representing their macroeconomic concerns and challenges to G20 leaders. More than 300 dignitaries, including representatives from G20 member and invitee countries, international organizations, and national delegates, participated in the two-day event.

The Sikkim Sabha was inaugurated with keynote speeches from several notable figures. During the inauguration ceremony, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Taman expressed his excitement about the opportunity that Startup20 provides for stakeholders to connect and engage in meaningful dialogue.

Furthermore, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Prakash highlighted the crucial role that startups play in driving economic growth, job creation, and innovation.

Startup20 Engagement Group Chair Chintan Vaishnav stressed the importance of collaboration in strengthening the startup community and bringing together ecosystem players from around the world, particularly from G20 nations.

Other notable speakers included V. B. Pathak, the Chief Secretary of Sikkim, Rupa Dutta, the Principal Advisor of the Department of Promotions of Industries and Internal Trade (DPIIT), and Ashish Sinha, the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs.

The event also featured a fireside chat with Dr. Chintan and a Startup Showcase, where attendees could interact with startups from various sectors.

On the second day, attendees were divided into five task forces to delve deeper into discussions on the policy paper framework and develop recommendations for strengthening the startup ecosystem globally. During the discussions, the task forces presented their objectives, discussions, and way forward before the event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Chintan Vaishav and a cultural excursion to the Rumtek Monastery.

The final meeting of Startup20 is scheduled to be held in Gurugram in July.
