Union Minister Anurag Thakur attributed this to the policy of "zero tolerance against terrorism"

There has been a 168% decrease in terror incidents and a 94% conviction rate for terror financing in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister Anurag Thakur has said.

In a detailed statement to the media on Monday, the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister attributed this to the government's policy of "zero tolerance against terrorism".

He also said that a period of peace had lasted since 2014 in the North East, where there had been an 80% decrease in civilian fatalities and 6,000 militant surrenders.

Thakur claimed that while the government has made progress on the legal front by strengthening UAPA, it has also made progress on the regulation front by granting the National Investigation Agency a truly federal structure by incorporating the National Investigation Agency (Amendment) Act, and the overall result of these actions has been a weakening of the terrorism ecosystem.

He added that PM Modi has consistently urged the world to unify against terror in international conferences and summits, underscoring the fact that India has voiced its concerns at the highest levels of the international community.

"The government's resolve against terror has been displayed time and again from Surgical Strike to Balakot Strike. The action by our armed forces has caused a significant 168% drop in terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, we have achieved a 94% conviction rate in terror financing cases" he said.

Anurag Thakur spoke extensively on the government's attempts to foster peace in the area's northeast and said that since 2014, when insurgent violence in the region of India's northeast saw a significant decrease of 80% and civilian fatalities saw an 89% drop.

In addition, he also emphasized the success of 6,000 insurgents' surrender since 2014. He continued by saying that the government's measures to limit the ability of left-wing extremists had resulted in a 265% decrease in violent occurrences.

Regarding the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, he stated that although its rollback had long been discussed, the government has actually done so in a significant portion of the North East, including the entirety of Tripura and Meghalaya.

He also went into detail about the government's past rescue efforts by highlighting the accomplishments and emphasizing that saving Indian lives in danger is the government's top priority and that India has led the way in leading rescue efforts across the world.

Speaking about the status several initiatives have given India in the world, he claimed that while a neighboring country is only perceived as one that supports terrorism and espouses violent values, India is increasingly seen as a nation that readily extends all assistance to other nations in times of need.
