The flag has earlier been displayed in the Sikkim Himalayas as well as in Antarctica

In a combined effort, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling, the Institute of Hotel Management in Srinagar, and the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of India (North) exhibited a 7500-square-foot Indian tricolour on the Dal Lake’s shore in Srinagar.

This was done to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and the 75th anniversary of the independence of India from British colonial rule. The flag is a part of the "Har Ghar Tiranga campaign of the Indian government."

The chief guest on this historic occasion was Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. While warmly congratulating the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the Lt. Governor also discussed the development strategy for the next 25 years.

The flag itself weighed between 80 and 85 kg with its supporting materials. Team HMI had displayed the same flag in the Sikkim Himalayas in April 2021, and then on August 15, 2021 at the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata and on October 31, 2021 at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.

Thereafter, the Flag was displayed at Antarctica, setting the World Record of Largest National Flag of any country displayed for the first time in Antarctica.

Prior to its arrival in Srinagar, the flag was hoisted in Darjeeling on August 8 to commemorate 80 years of the Quit India Movement.

The flag was made in three panels due to its enormous size. In order for the flag to resist weather extremes such as high-velocity mountain winds, subzero temperatures in Antarctica, and other harsh weather components, special attention was paid to its stability factor and safety anchors were placed correctly.

People from many walks of life, including representatives from the travel and hospitality industry, government officials, students, the media, and others, attended the event.
