External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is on a three-nation visit to the South American region

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is on a three-nation tour of the South American region, called on
Argentina's President Alberto Fernandez on Thursday and discussed more ambitious trade levels as part of stronger bilateral cooperation.

Taking to Twitter, he shared pictures from the meeting and wrote, "Thank President @alferdez for receiving me. Conveyed the greetings of PM @narendramodi. Discussed strengthening our bilateral cooperation, including making trade levels more sustainable and ambitious."

"Also spoke about energy & food security,both from the perspective of the Global South & our bilateral ties. Underlined the importance of affordable healthcare,including pharmaceuticals. Exchanged views on the potential for our defence cooperation as well as in nuclear energy," he added in another tweet.

The External Affairs Minister, who arrived in Argentina on Thursday, also met with the country's Minister of Economy Sergio Massa. "Glad to meet @SergioMassa, Minister of Economy of Argentina. Appreciate his positive outlook towards expanding our economic cooperation," he tweeted.

EAM Jaishankar had earlier visited Paraguay and Brazil as part of his three-nation tour, his first to the region.

He completed his official visit to Paraguay on Monday, when he also inaugurated the Indian Embassy in Asuncion, the nation's capital. On Sunday, he had inaugurated a bust of Mahatma Gandhi. This, incidentally, was the first visit by an Indian External Affairs Minister to Paraguay.

After Paraguay, EAM Jaishankar travelled to Brazil, where his engagements included a meeting with the LIDE association of Brazilian entrepreneurs and a visit to the Sao Paulo State Federation of Industries.

Along with Carlos Franca, his Brazilian counterpart, he co-chaired the 8th India-Brazil Joint Commission Meeting on Wednesday, when they held in-depth discussions about business, investments, and other consular matters.

They also inked agreements in the domains of taxes and broadcasting and had discussions about the BRICS, IBSA, UN, G20, and the war in Ukraine.
