The detainee was allegedly planning to attack a member of India’s ruling circles

Indian authorities are in close contact with Russian authorities in relation to the recently apprehended Islamic State (IS) terrorist and a suspected suicide bomber, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.

“We are aware of the case and we are in touch with the Russian authorities on the matter," MEA Official Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in response to a query during the weekly media briefing.

However, he refrained from making additional comments and didn’t disclose any further information about it. “Given the security implications, you would appreciate we are not in a position to share further details in this matter at this moment,” he said.

An IS terrorist named Azamov Mashrabkhon was detained by the Russian security agency FSB (Russia’s Federal Security Service). According to media reports, the arrested is of Uzbek origin.

According to the FSB, the detained IS member was preparing to carry out a terrorist attack by self-detonation against one of the leaders of India's ruling circles, in response to offensive remarks made against the Prophet Mohammad.

The detainee was allegedly recruited as a suicide bomber by one of ISIS's commanders when he was in Turkey between April and June of this year, according to the FSB. The FSB informed the relevant Indian agencies of the terrorist's capture.
