Tata Motors to Increase Car Prices by Rs 25,000 from September 2026
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has confirmed an upcoming price increase for its range of passenger vehicles in India. Effective from 1 September 2026, the prices for Tata cars and SUVs will rise by as much as Rs 25,000. This change will affect both internal combustion engine (ICE) models and electric vehicles (EVs), although the specific increase will differ by model and variant. The increase of Rs 25,000 represents the highest potential hike and will not apply uniformly across all vehicles. Detailed pricing information is expected to be released closer to the implementation date.
The primary justification for this revision is attributed to escalating input costs and ongoing inflationary pressures. While the company continues to manage a substantial fraction of these cost increases internally, it will now transmit some of the additional expenses to consumers. This price adjustment encompasses Tata Motors' entire passenger vehicle lineup, including popular ICE models such as Tiago, Tigor, Punch, Altroz, Nexon, Curvv, Harrier, and Safari, alongside the brand's increasing electric vehicle offerings.
Tata Motors has not disclosed specific price hikes for each model at this time. Depending on the variant, the actual increase may be significantly lower than the maximum figure of Rs 25,000. This impending price increase follows a previous adjustment in July 2026, where prices rose by up to 1.5% across the entire range of vehicles.
The recent revision presents a different approach, as Tata Motors has specified a maximum increase rather than a percentage, which for some consumers translates to another price adjustment occurring within a two-month timeframe.
In the current market landscape, Tata Motors is not alone in announcing higher prices ahead of the festive season. Hyundai has also declared a price increase of up to 1% across its portfolio starting September 2026, citing similar reasons related to rising input costs and broader economic uncertainties. Notably, Maruti Suzuki, the market leader in India, increased its car prices earlier this month.
This timing is significant as September marks the onset of a crucial period for the automotive industry in India, where manufacturers generally observe increased demand due to the festive season. Consumers looking to purchase a Tata vehicle might still complete transactions under existing pricing structures if they can do so before the new prices take effect. However, the final pricing for existing bookings will depend on Tata Motors' invoicing and delivery policies. The new ex-showroom prices will influence the overall cost for consumers as factors like registration and insurance are often linked to the vehicle's value.
With the impending price adjustments scheduled for September 1, prospective buyers must await additional updates from Tata Motors for the revised pricing applicable to different models and variants.
