Six Arrested Following Leak of 'Jana Nayagan' Film
Six individuals have been apprehended concerning the illegal leak of the film 'Jana Nayagan', which stars Vijay, the leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime police announced the arrests on Sunday, April 12. The accused were allegedly involved in uploading and distributing pirated versions of the film on various cloud storage platforms and sharing links to these copies.
The authorities have charged the suspects under the Information Technology Act, the Copyright Act, and the Cinematography Act. To address this situation, several special teams within the Cyber Crime Wing were established to investigate different facets of the case, which included identifying and shutting down infringing URLs, conducting digital forensic analyses, and tracing individuals participating in the distribution chain.
The arrests stemmed from digital evidence collected during the ongoing investigation. Following their arrest, the individuals were presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.
In an advisory, the Tamil Nadu police cautioned the public against downloading, streaming, or sharing pirated versions of 'Jana Nayagan' or any other protected content, indicating that stringent action would be taken against anyone who circulates or endorses such material via social media, messaging platforms, or websites.
The film's leak occurred on April 9, provoking shock among fans and members of the film industry alike. Produced by KVN Productions, the filmmakers have sought legal action against those involved in the distribution of pirated content.
'Jana Nayagan' is being touted as Vijay's last film before he fully transitions into his political career. The film also features notable actors such as Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol. Originally planned for release during the Pongal festival in January, the film's debut was delayed due to procedural lapses flagged by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The leak has been met with widespread denunciation from figures in the film community, including iconic actors Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, and Chiranjeevi, who have all spoken against the prevalence of piracy within the industry.
