Shreyas Iyer Shares Recovery Update After Serious Injury in Australia
Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer provides an update on his recovery from a near-fatal injury sustained during a match in Australia last month.

Shreyas Iyer, the prominent Indian cricketer, has recently shared a positive update following a serious injury he sustained during the third One Day International (ODI) match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25. The injury, which involved a lacerated spleen, was severe enough to necessitate a stay in the hospital, including time spent in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

In a heartfelt post on social media, Iyer uploaded a cheerful photograph of himself on a beach with a friend, bringing relief to his fans. He captioned the image, stating, "Sun been a great therapy. Grateful to be back. Thanks for all the love and care." This marks his first public communication since the distressing incident, where he suffered a fall while attempting to catch a ball that was hit by Australian batter Alex Carey.

The fall resulted in Iyer landing awkwardly, causing him significant pain and leading to his immediate transfer to a medical facility. Medical examinations revealed that he had suffered a spleen laceration, which resulted in internal bleeding and required urgent medical intervention.

Reports indicate that Iyer's condition became critical, with his vital signs dropping to dangerously low levels, necessitating his admission to the ICU. The prompt actions taken by the Indian team's medical personnel, along with the local doctors in Sydney, were instrumental in stabilising his condition. Iyer was eventually discharged on November 1 but chose to remain in Sydney for continued follow-up care, accompanied by his sister, Shreshta Iyer.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement expressing gratitude towards Dr Koroush Haghighi, who treated Iyer in Sydney, and Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India for their contributions to his recovery. A BCCI official commented on Iyer's situation, remarking that discussions regarding a potential return to cricket were premature. They emphasised that Iyer's physical and mental health are the top priorities at this time, stating, "There’s no question of thinking about cricket at the moment."

Although Shreyas Iyer's recovery is ongoing, it is anticipated that he will miss the forthcoming ODI series against South Africa, which is set to commence on November 30. Currently, Iyer's positive outlook and his reassuring message to fans have provided a sense of hope and relief, indicating that he is on the mend after a harrowing experience.
