Security Cordon Removed Outside Pakistan High Commission in Delhi
Indian authorities have dismantled structures outside the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi, following similar actions from Islamabad.

Authorities in New Delhi have recently removed unauthorized structures situated outside the Pakistan High Commission. These structures were near the visa section of the mission and extended beyond the designated perimeter of the compound. The action appears to be a reciprocal response following the dismantling of parking poles by Pakistani authorities outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad days prior. This tit-for-tat approach is common in the context of the historically strained relations between the two nations.

The tensions have persisted for years, often leading to reciprocal actions such as staff reductions and tightened access controls. Following a military confrontation in April 2025, initiated by a terror attack in Pahalgam, relations reached one of their lowest points in decades. In this incident, 26 people were killed by Pakistan-trained militants, prompting India's counter-terrorism initiative, termed “Operation Sindoor,” aimed at targeting terror infrastructure within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

That brief conflict, reminiscent of the 1999 Kargil War, concluded with Pakistan reaching out to India for a ceasefire. Since then, formal diplomatic engagement has effectively halted. The bilateral trade has been suspended, the main land border crossing remains closed, and visa protocols have been significantly restricted. Furthermore, the operations of both countries’ high commissions are currently functioning with reduced personnel.

Amid these developments, India has placed the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty on hold, citing Pakistan’s ongoing support for cross-border terrorism as an obstacle to normal relations. New Delhi has asserted that neighbourly ties are only feasible in an environment devoid of violence. Despite the political friction, military communication channels have not been entirely severed. Weekly discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations continue, with the ceasefire reportedly holding, albeit with limited violations.

In light of these recent changes surrounding the diplomatic missions, analysts have noted that mutual actions tend to reflect the ongoing complexities characterising India-Pakistan relations.
