Ranveer Singh Offers Comfort at Asha Bhosle's Final Farewell
An emotional scene unfolded during the funeral of the legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle in Mumbai, where actor Ranveer Singh was seen comforting her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle. The funeral took place on April 12, following Asha Bhosle's passing at the age of 92.
The singer was cremated with full state honours at the Shivaji Park Crematorium. The event attracted numerous members of the film and music industry, who gathered to pay their respects. Amid the mourning, Zanai was visibly distressed, standing close to her grandmother's casket. Ranveer Singh, known for his support within the industry, stepped in to provide a comforting embrace, attempting to ease her sorrow during this difficult time.
The poignant moment, which was captured on video, highlighted the profound grief surrounding the passing of one of India's most celebrated musical figures. As noted in the footage shared by Pallav Paliwal, the scene resonated with many who admired Asha Bhosle's contributions to Indian music.
Asha Bhosle's final rites were conducted by her son, Anand Bhosle, in the presence of family, friends, and colleagues from the entertainment world. Notable attendees included actors Vicky Kaushal, Aamir Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Padmini Kolhapure, and Jackie Shroff. Musical tributes were performed by singers Shaan and Sudesh Bhosale before the final farewell.
Prominent political figures also attended the ceremony, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, to honour Asha Bhosle's legacy. Born to the renowned Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle embarked on her musical career at a young age, making her debut in 1943 with the Marathi song "Chala Chala Nav Bala" from the film Majha Bal.
Over a remarkable career spanning more than seventy years, she established an extensive body of work across multiple genres. Her collaborations with the iconic composer RD Burman remain particularly celebrated, producing timeless hits that have defined various eras of Hindi cinema. Noteworthy tracks such as "Piya Tu Ab To Aaja" and "Dum Maro Dum" reflect her versatility, along with soulful classics including "Dil Cheez Kya Hai" and "Chura Liya Hai Tumne."
Asha Bhosle's extraordinary contributions to music earned her several accolades, including two National Film Awards, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000, and the Padma Vibhushan, one of India's highest civilian awards, in 2008.
